Consultant Ophthalmologist – glaucoma/medical retina/general ophthalmology.
Maeve works in the Mater Hospital and the HSE as a consultant ophthalmologist.
Cambridge Medical School awarded her a double distinction and the Kermode prize as one of the top candidates in her year. She started her medical/surgical career working in adult and paediatric emergency departments in Northern Ireland before starting the UK specialist training programme in Ophthalmology in 2004 which she successfully completed in 2014.
She subspecialised in glaucoma and medical retina with 2.5 years of fellowships in the international centre, Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
The Royal College of Ophthalmologist in the UK awarded her with the Harcourt Gold Medal as the top candidate in the 2012 FRCOphth final exam. Queen’s University Belfast awarded her a postgraduate diploma in Clinical Education in 2012. After legal studies with King’s Inns Dublin she gained the Advanced Diploma in Medicolegal studies in 2023.
She has published retina and glaucoma articles in national and international research publications. She is an examiner for the FRCOphth in the UK and for FEBO exam in Europe.
Maeve has proudly supported global ophthalmology by contributing extensively to examinations internationally with the ICO and COESCA.
